This policy explains what the Split Happens iPhone beta stores, why it stores it, and the choices available to you.
The short version
Split Happens is built for one two-person household. It does not include third-party advertising, sell personal information, or use cross-app tracking. The app uses Apple iCloud and CloudKit to sync household data and share it with the person you choose.
Information the app stores
- Names and household roles: the names you enter for each household member and whether a member is the owner or participant.
- Household financial information: income amounts, expenses, regular bills, settlements, transfer records, split percentages, dates, amounts, and balances.
- Content you provide: merchant names, bill names, categories, and other labels you enter.
- Operational records: stable record identifiers, household settings, sync state, sharing state, and activity history needed to keep the ledger consistent.
Split Happens does not ask for bank credentials, payment-card numbers, precise location, contacts, photos, microphone access, or health information.
How information is used
Information is used only to:
- calculate and display your shared household balance;
- save and synchronize the ledger across your devices;
- share the ledger with the invited household participant;
- preserve consistency, recovery state, and an activity history; and
- create an export or diagnostic package when you initiate one.
Where information is stored
Data is stored on your device and in private or shared CloudKit databases associated with the participating Apple Accounts. Apple operates iCloud and CloudKit under Apple’s own terms and privacy practices. Split Happens does not operate a separate account server, analytics service, or advertising network.

Sharing and disclosure
The household owner can invite one participant through Apple’s CloudKit sharing system. Shared household records are then available to that participant according to the share’s permissions. Apple processes data as needed to provide iCloud and CloudKit. We may also disclose information when legally required, or to protect the security and integrity of the app.
We do not sell or rent household data, and we do not disclose it to data brokers or advertisers.
Retention, access, and deletion
Household data remains available while it is kept in the app and its associated iCloud databases. Removing the app from a device does not necessarily remove data stored in iCloud. The owner can manage sharing, and a participant can leave a share using Apple’s sharing controls.
During the beta, use TestFlight’s “Send Beta Feedback” action for help accessing, exporting, correcting, or deleting data. Include only the minimum information needed to handle the request.
Security and children
Split Happens relies on Apple platform protections, device data protection, and CloudKit access controls. No system can guarantee absolute security, so keep your device and Apple Account protected.
The app is intended for adults managing a household and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the beta changes. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published. For privacy questions, use TestFlight’s feedback action or visit the support page.
